Paperboys

For my birthday this year, I bought some of the Peter Dennis "Paperboys" books, having seen them in action on Aly Morrison's blog.

I thought they looked quite charming, and when I saw one of them was a "Little Wars" reprint, I was gone for all money.

So I started assembling a base of WSS Bavarian Grenadiers.

Not too onerous to cut out. I'd probably benefit from making a few stands at a time as a batch. Good fun so far. I am looking at a scenario for the Schellenburg, 1704 as my build target. Let's see how we go.

The Schellenburg was an early love of mine since I first came across it in Mil Mod years and years ago and I'm chuffed to be building a neat little Bavarian Army in that cause.

Have the book but not tried cutting out figures - and remember 'don't run with scissors!'

A good start sir...
They do indeed look very effective on mass...

All the best. Aly

Thanks Tony - I'll be a good boy with the scissors.

Aly, I bought these because I saw the battle report on your blog.

Cheers,

Greg

I cannot be trusted with scissors or to stay within or without the lines.

They are attractive figures though. I had a handful of paper soldiers as a kid.

Happy belated birthday, old bean! The figures look tantalizingly good. Have thought about having a go with some of these myself though time is a bit scarce at the moment. How are things with The Blight in your neck of the woods?

Ross, Stokes, so long as we're staying clear of the plague...

We're frantically busy with the public health side of the response to COVID, supporting our medical staff to do their thing remotely and all that.

Stokes, a stand an evening is not too great a commitment..., especially if you glue up a few beforehand.

Regards,

Greg

PS, I see el Trumpo has been making more ridiculous statements about the situation. Fill those Churches, it'll all be over by Easter... blab, blab...

They are certainly great books with attractive figures; I have all but the 2 naval wargames books (I was always rubbish at naval wargames!). I have 170 sheets of the AWI figures and buildings and terrain printed out and must really get down to making some up. Before Peter Dennis came out with the first of the books in 2016 I was thinking of designing my own paper soldiers - I'm glad he saved me the work!

I look forward to seeing how you get on with those WSS figures; the more I see other people's efforts at these paper soldiers the more I feel I really must work on mine. :-)

Good luck.

Cheers,

David.
