Anyway. this is the start of the Mamluk cavalry horde.

I’ve been
looking at these figures and thinking a bit.
How does
this seem – mount each horseman on a 50mmx50mm base and allow him two ‘followers’
on 25mmx25mm bases that can be placed behind him. They’d be the people picking
up his discarded muskets and pistols for him. They might also be used (or
re-used) as infantry in other contexts.
One or two might be equipped with banners to add to the spectacle.
Thoughts?

I think I'd like to build them out to 48 cavalry in total (both light and more heavily armoured types) and put them on vignette bases with a couple of followers trailing behind each horseman, carrying their discarded weapons...
I have it in mind to use figures from the Sudan range as the costume would be about right.
Use more of these to add a couple of infantry mobs and attach some Janissaries and Bob's your uncle.
You can call these splendid fellows whatever you like, as long as the agree. You wouldn't want to be in in their bad books.
You could probably get away with adding some Zouaves as local Janissaries with varied, colourful, sleeveless vests over shirts. Just remove the bayonets.
A great start, I think lots of differnet horse positions and colours will help and there's always Lejeune's painting of the Battle of the Pyramids for inspiration.
Very nice figures. And Mamluks is perfectly acceptable, I think! :-)
